Nottingham Forest are currently in Spain preparing for Premier League life and a squad list has revealed that five under-23 players are with the group.

Steve Cooper isn’t averse to taking a look at younger players and the pre-season camp has proved no different.

Forest will spend a week getting fit in the balmy Spanish heat before facing Coventry in a pre-season friendly on Friday evening.

Some of those youngsters might get the chance to shine and it’s an exciting time for them.

The five emerging talents with the group are George Shelvey, Nicky Hogarth, Fin Back, Riley Harbottle and Aaron Donnelly.

It’s perhaps surprising that others arent with Cooper’s squad too.

Notable omissions include Ateef Konate, Will Swan and Julian Larsson, whilst Billy Fewster can perhaps count himself unlucky too.

This is a great opportunity for the selected quintet, however.

For one of Shelvey or Hogarth, it does seem unlikely that they will feature against Coventry.

Both Dean Henderson and Jordan Smith have travelled and it’s likely that only two – or three as a maximum – will receive minutes.

With Forest not exactly blessed with wing-backs at the moment, both Back and Donnelly could get some useful game time.

Likewise for Harbottle. He seems certain to head out on loan this summer but this training camp should gear him up nicely.

This will be a good time for the under-23 players involved with the Forest squad.

By the time the season comes around, more players will have been signed and perhaps their chances of game time will dwindle.

All five could feasibly end up out on loan but this experience will put them in good stead.

Cooper enjoys working and getting the best out of his younger players and he will learn a lot about the five this week.

Harbottle and Back have tasted first-team football before and look like big players for the future.

Nurturing them is the job of the club, however, and this week could really take the quintet to the next level in their careers.
