Nottingham Forest youngster Will Swan will spend the 2022/23 campaign on loan with Mansfield Town – and he got off to a steady start for the Stags yesterday.

Swan scored bags of goals for the under-23s last season. During the club’s first year playing in Premier League 2, he bagged 12 times and the step-up should aid his development.

The youngster needs to be playing regularly. This feels like a big loan spell for him and he will hope to earn a regular place in Nigel Clough’s team over the next season.

Swan has come through the Forest ranks. He has two substitute appearances for the first team to his name and he’s also spent time on loan with Port Vale.

That particular spell wasn’t overly successful. Swan does seem like a far more accomplished young player these days though and that could put him in good stead at Mansfield.

The 21-year-old comes alive in the penalty and he wasted no time in flexing his skills during yesterday’s pre-season win against Retford United at Cannon Park.

Stags ran out 6-0 victors and Swan created an assist for James Gale to score in the first half. He was substituted at the break, with Clough playing two different elevens.

Swan on loan at Mansfield and he’s now at a crossroads

At 21, the time is now for Swan. The striker will be desperate to score plenty of goals and enjoy a fruitful loan spell at One Call Stadium during 2022/23.

The talisman must know that he has to start proving himself in the senior game soon. Indeed, if he wants to earn a Forest chance, there really is no time to waste.

Swan is highly rated by the coaching staff at Forest. As of yet though, he’s failed to get a chance under Steve Cooper and that’s likely down to the form of the first team.

The Reds talisman must seize the opportunity to play games in the EFL. If he does that and can grab himself some goals, Swan could still earn a chance at the City Ground.
