Josh Doig was a transfer target for Nottingham Forest and Arsenal in August 2021. Now, he could be in line for a surprise move to Serie A.
Hellas Verona look set to win the race to sign the young left-back ahead of several other potential suitors.
The Italian outfit finished ninth last season and during 2022/23 they will hope to push towards European qualification.
It was claimed that Forest would try and loan Doig if Burnley completed a £4 million deal for the player last summer.

The Reds ultimately landed Max Lowe instead and he made 20 appearances as Forest reached the Premier League.
Hibernian have decided that the time is right to cash in on Doig. The 25-year-old is keen to move to a bigger club and the SPL outfit are granting him his wish.
Former Arsenal stopper Matt Macey previously praised Doig. He spent some time at Hibs playing alongside him and praised his ‘unbelievable’ tendencies.
Doig will now have a chance to prove himself in a top European league and he could work his way to the Premier League eventually.
Aaron Hickey left the Scottish top flight to play for Bologna two years ago. He returned this summer to sign for Brentford and there are some similarities.
Doig was a Forest target and he’d have been ideal this summer
The Reds have now signed Omar Richards to fill their left-sided wing-back void. Huddersfield defender Harry Toffolo also remains a primary target for Forest.
Doig might have been one player worth looking at this summer. He slots into the wing-back role nicely and might have fancied a crack at the Premier League.

The 20-year-old has time on his side. He’s nowhere near full potential yet and his ceiling is relatively high for the future.
It will definitely be intriguing to see how the player gets on at Hellas Verona and it’s certainly a surprising deal.
Doig is likely to remain on the radar with some Premier League clubs and it will be interesting to see if he does end up in England.
