Nottingham Forest have moved to appoint Simon Murphy as the club’s new Head Physio after he departed Arsenal. Murphy replaces Neil Simms who has left the City Ground to become Lead Performance Physio at Southampton.
Murphy is no stranger to Nottingham. He returns to the city where he was an undergraduate student between 2008 and 2011. The ex-Arsenal man has a sound reputation in the game and has been at the Emirates Stadium for a year.
Prior to his time in North London, he was based in the East Midlands. He spent seven years with Leicester City; rising through the ranks to become Head Physio in July 2020.
The Reds have moved quickly to secure the services of Murphy. With Simms departing it left the medical team short and naturally, someone with Premier League experience has been sought.
Another physio has also chosen to leave the City Ground. Luis Pinho arrived at Forest last summer from Sheffield Wednesday but he’s been headhunted by Tottenham.
It’s an eye-catching move for the Portuguese staff member. He worked his way through the ranks at Hillsborough and has earned himself a dream move to Spurs after a single season.
Forest will welcome Murphy to their ranks and it looks like a good appointment. Arsenal are a massive football club and to have them on his CV makes him a coup.

The Reds will want to ensure they have the very best people in place for next season. Appointing Murphy looks like good business and he boasts plenty of top-level experience.
He will have some big shoes to fill, however. Last season was the first in some time that the Reds managed to limit serious injuries to a minimum.
That is a testament to the great work that was done behind the second. As a result, Murphy will hope to follow suit and become a credit to his profession during 2022/23.
