Jack Rudoni was linked with Nottingham Forest in January and he could now hand the Reds a massive boost in the quest to sign Lewis O’Brien.
The AFC Wimbledon player is undergoing a medical with Huddersfield, according to the South London Press. If successful, he will join the Terriers for a fee of £800,000.
Rudoni was on the radar of Forest earlier this year. Had the club remained in the Championship, perhaps Steve Cooper would have moved to sign him too.
With Premier League football secured, however, the Reds have better irons in the fire. One of these is Huddersfield star, O’Brien who could be available for £10 million.
Forest look to have a clear run for the young midfielder. Leeds were interested but with Jesse Marsch in place, they’ve signed other midfield targets.
The Reds are desperate for new midfielders. Ryan Yates and Jack Colback should see plenty of game time but Cafu and Braian Ojeda might both be deemed surplus.
O’Brien was a fine performer for Huddersfield last season. He really came of age, making 50 appearances for the Terriers in all competitions and helping them reach the play-off final.
Now, his future could lie away from West Yorkshire. The 23-year-old has come through the youth ranks at Huddersfield and seeing him go to Forest will hurt supporters.
Forest linked Rudoni could now be key to O’Brien transfer
This is a remarkable turn of events. Rudoni scored 12 goals in 41 League One appearances last season and he does look set for a bright future.
The player also registered seven assists. He typically operates out wide but last season he was also utilised through the middle on several occasions.
As a result, he could be lined up as someone who could feasibly replace O’Brien in the Huddersfield team during 2022/23.
Forest would love O’Brien in their team. He’s got a lovely left foot and also boasts energy that doesn’t waver throughout the 90 minutes.
As soon as Rudoni checks in, surely speculation will ramp up regarding O’Brien and his possible move to Forest.
