Nottingham Forest could sign Gustavo Scarpa on a pre-contract agreement but there is a strange twist, according to South American football expert Tim Vickery.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move to sign the left-footer. He is out of contract at Palmeiras in December and looks set to move to Europe.

Scarpa is currently embroiled in a battle to win the Brazilian championship. As a result, he doesn’t want to leave the club before his contract is up.

The 28-year-old has been with his current club since 2018. He joined from Fluminense and has proved a useful player for the club.

During the current campaign, he’s registered eight goals and eight assists, bagging three and creating five for his team in the league.

The beauty of Scarpa is clearly his versatility. He can play anywhere across the front three and he’s even dropped into central midfield before.

Now, he could join Forest on a free transfer in the winter, but a very strange twist has emerged as part of the deal.

It would seem as though Evangelos Marinakis has something up his sleeve when it comes to the future of the one-cap wonder.

Forest will take the player in December, but he could be immediately loaned out to Olympiacos; if the Greek champions are still in the Champions League.

That wouldn’t really help Forest. As a result, it’s perhaps deemed that Scarpa is considered more of a player for next season rather than the second half of 2022/23.

Forest could sign Scrapa but twist is intriguing

It doesn’t really seem as though Marinakis knows exactly what to do with Scarpa just yet. With that in mind, he faces a waiting game.

One thing he will know is that he will be leaving Palmeiras in the winter and heading to either Greece or England.

If Olympiacos are out of the Champions League by then, it seems as though Cooper’s squad could be bolstered for the second half of the campaign.

Scarpa does look like a player and at 28 he should be arriving in Europe at the peak of his powers and in good form.

The transfer twist is strange though and hopefully some more clarity will emerge in the coming days.
