The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the City Ground, scoring five goals as Forest won promotion.
He’s now returned to Villa and it’s previously been claimed that the Villans are keen to recoup £15 million for his services.
Steve Cooper is desperate to see the big man return to Forest but right now, the price tag is deterring the Reds from pursuing his signature.
Davis has joined Steven Gerrard’s squad on their pre-season tour of Australia and he will be hoping to impress the gaffer.
A deal isn’t thought to be close on this one but early discussions between the two clubs have already taken place.
It’s thought that both Villa and Forest have an excellent relationship with each other and perhaps that will help any potential deal.
The £25,000-a-week Davis was a battering ram of a striker during the second half of 2021/22. He looked useful in the FA Cup games against top-flight opponents and that bodes well.
This news will be pleasant to those of a Forest persuasion and the hope will be that a deal can be struck in the future.
Discussions held by Forest over Villa man Davis
As good as Davis was last season, he simply isn’t worth £15 million.
Forest landed Taiwo Awoniyi earlier in the summer. He cost £17 million and scored 20 times for a team in the Bundesliga last season.
Davis’ goalscoring record over the years hasn’t been great. In truth, however, he’s not had too many chances to hold down a regular place at Villa.
His quality at holding the ball up is something that Cooper clearly fancies having in his squad.
Signing him would see Forest land a player with bags of potential. It would also prove a popular deal in the eyes of supporters.
The challenge for the Reds is to make sure they do the best deal possible for the club.
