Nottingham Forest will complete the signing of Huddersfield midfielder Lewis O’Brien, according to transfer expert Jacque Talbot who has been speaking to Give Me Sport.

The Reds have been thrashing out a deal for O’Brien in recent weeks. Huddersfield owner Dean Hoyle is hoping to recoup £12 million for a player who has risen through the Terriers’ youth ranks.

O’Brien was magnificent during 2021/22. He was the club’s standout performer during last season, making 50 appearances as they reached the Championship play-off final.

He was left out of the squad for yesterday’s friendly with Doncaster. Now, the player is expected to complete a move to the City Ground once a deal has been totally agreed upon.

Talbot explained to Give Me Sport: “I think the Lewis O’Brien one, they’ll get that over the line soon from Huddersfield, that will happen. It will be done relatively soon.”

O’Brien will bolster an area of the pitch that is in desperate need of some work. Ryan Yates is out of action for a month, leaving Jack Colback, Cafu and Braian Ojeda as the midfield options.

The Huddersfield man has been a standout midfielder in the Championship over the last 12 months. He was superb back in December when the Reds were beaten by the Terriers on home soil.

O’Brien played the full 90 minutes as Huddersfield lost to Forest in the Championship play-off final. Now, he could be lining up in the Garibaldi next season.

Carlos Corberan is a big fan of O’Brien and called him ‘exceptional’ back in March.

Forest will complete O’Brien signing

This looks like a very useful addition to the Reds ranks. Signing players has become pretty urgent and Cooper’s team looks extremely unbalanced, to say the least.

O’Brien is a box-to-box midfielder with tenacious tendencies. He loves to get on the ball and has a brilliant passing radar and a steely determination.

The Huddersfield player now looks set to complete his move to the City Ground and sign for the club that handed him massive disappointment in May.

Cooper will welcome the chance to have O’Brien as part of his squad. The head coach will hope that the Terriers player is followed through the door by several other new faces.
