Everton are set to return with another bid for Nottingham Forest-linked player Maxwell Cornet, according to the Daily Mail.

Burnley could be forced to sell their star man this summer, with a £17.5 million release clause in his contract.

Forest have already been rebuffed in their attempts to sign the player but Everton are hopeful of landing the player.

The Reds are desperately seeking new attacking options and several have been linked with a move to the City Ground.

Cornet only signed for Burnley last summer but he was unable to prevent the team from dropping into the Championship last season.

If he remains at the club he will have a part to play in the second tier but he’s more than good enough to play in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old made 29 appearances during his maiden campaign in England. He scored nine goals and registered two assists during the 2021/22 campaign.

Cornet is now a wanted man. He could find himself back in the Premier League instantly but Everton and Forest will need to increase their offers.

Frank Lampard is desperate to bolster his ranks this term having seen Richarlison join Tottenham for £60 million.

The Reds appear to be in the running for lots of the same players as Everton, with both clubs keen to strengthen.

Everton return with another bid for Cornet and perhaps he’s not one for Forest

This one might prove tricky for Forest to complete, not least because they don’t utilise out-and-out wingers. Everton do and his style perhaps suits them better.

Forest are unlikely to splash £17.5 million on a player that doesn’t naturally fulfil a role in the team. That said, it wouldn’t be the first time that Steve Cooper has coached a player to do something a bit differently.

Cornet is rapid and he would be a useful signing. It’s no surprise to see an established side like Everton in the mix to sign him and other suitors could yet emerge.

The 29-cap star is a very handy player but right now, perhaps he’s not as tailor-made to the Forest system that Cooper would prefer ahead of next season.
