Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Oliver Abildgaard, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Reds aren’t the only club vying for the Danish star, with Werder Bremen and Sampdoria also thought to be keen.
Forest are desperately trying to bolster their midfield ranks. Abildgaard operates in the middle of the park and he’s currently playing for Rubin Kazan in Russia.
The Reds could land Abildgaard quite easily. Due to FIFA rules in Russia, he’s able to suspend his contract for a single year and sign for another club on a free transfer.

Abildgaard, 26, is a defensive midfielder. During the 2021/22 campaign, he was in fine form, making 22 appearances and he finished the season captaining the outfit.
It wasn’t a particularly good season for his current club. They finished the season with 12 defeats from their final 15 matches and were thrashed 6-0 by Sochi.
Abildgaard signed for the player from Aalborg BK. He came through the youth academy in his homeland and has also claimed one cap through playing for Denmark.
Forest would perhaps view Abildgaard as a squad option. Although given the current shortage of midfielders, he’d have an immediate chance to stake his claim for a place.
Forest interested in Abildgaard and Steve Cooper will want it done
The Reds should get this one over the line. At 26-years-old he ticks a lot of boxes and ultimately he could be an easy signing to complete before the season starts.
With Yates injured and James Garner now back at Manchester United, the Reds are in need of players. The midfield looks very short and some depth is definitely required.

Abildgaard would add some steel to the midfield ranks. He is a tough-tackling performer and he also has plenty of experience to bring to the team.
Rumour rating: 7/10 – Abildgaard is a bit of an unknown quantity. He’s been playing his trade in the Russian leagues for a couple of years and he will fancy the chance of playing in a top European league.
The Reds are getting to the stage where beggars can’t be choosers. As a result, Abildgaard on a free transfer is a signing that makes a lot of sense as a short-term fix.
