Nottingham Forest are trying to sign Alex Moreno from Real Betis, according to The Athletic. Furthermore, the player is thought to be keen on a move to the City Ground.

The 29-year-old was part of the Real Betis team that finished fifth and won the Copa del Rey last season. He bagged five goals from 30 appearances and can operate anywhere on the left-hand side.

Forest are eyeing more new players, despite signing eight already this summer. Huddersfield duo Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo should take the total to 10 in the coming days.

Moreno did spend the entire 2021/22 playing as a left-back. With that in mind, it’s perhaps a bit of a strange addition for the Reds to make ahead of the new season.

Omar Richards has signed from Bayern Munich, with Toffolo set to join soon. The logical solution perhaps suggests he will act as a replacement for the transfer-listed Joe Lolley.

The 29-year-old has been told by Steve Cooper that he’s free to find another club. He was in action for the club’s under-23 outfit at Boston United on Saturday.

Moreno is a Spaniard with bags of experience. He has played over 100 times for both Betis and Rayo Vallecano, whilst he also lists Elche and Real Mallorca as his former teams.

Forest could face some competition for his signature. The report claims that right now talks are at an early stage, although there is optimism that something can be done.

Forest trying to sign Moreno and supporters might be intrigued

Idle gossip on social media platforms is as common as someone moaning that it’s too hot at this time of the year. Right now, the Reds timeline on Twitter is awash with speculation.

One of the most intriguing bits, that bears no real substance, is involving new recruit Richards. The talk among some fans is that the player has broken his leg and is set to be ruled out for some time.

Of course, this is nothing more than hearsay. A section of fans are enjoying some sense of pride at apparently being ITK. Some cloak and dagger tweets last night made an episode of Midsomer Murders seem easy to follow.

Last night when talks of another left-back being pursued, that section of supporters seemed to be in their element and it’s certainly an intriguing link.

Moreno can play though. He helped Real Betis enjoy a sensational season during 2021/22 and it’s perhaps surprising that he’s keen to make a switch to the Premier League.

Rumour rating: 8/10 – This looks like a deal that Forest should be keen to get over the line.

Moreno has plenty of top-flight experience and he’d bolster the options in Cooper’s squad considerably.

Given that he loves to get forward, it does seem that he will play further forward.

Forest need to bolster their forward ranks and signing Moreno would give them cover in a few positions.
