Nottingham Forest are stepping up their efforts to sign Burnley forward Maxwel Cornet, according to The Times. Everton and Fulham are also thought to be keen.

The Reds are frantically trying to add some attacking quality to their ranks. This summer has seen the defence strengthened but Forest seem light in the final third.

Cornet is a player who has been identified following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship. The player has a release clause in his current contract of around £17.5 million.

The 25-year-old signed for the Clarets last season. He scored nine goals and claimed two assists during his maiden campaign in the Premier League and is now a wanted man.

Cornet played as a centre-forward more often than not during 2021/22. He also featured on the left wing and as a number 10; although his speed makes him ideal for the wide positions.

The man with six goals from 29 appearances for his country signed for Burnley from Lyon. There he scored 51 goals and claimed 29 assists from 252 outings.

Forest would dearly love to add the speed demon to their squad. They’ve already seen one bid rejected as it fell below the release clause in the player’s contract.

Forest stepping up Cornet efforts and he’d be an exciting addition

The Reds desperately need to add some quality in the final third. With Joe Lolley told last week that he’s surplus to requirements, it leaves the Reds even shorter in attack.

Cornet has just finished a fine maiden campaign in the Premier League. As a result, it makes sense to see top-flight clubs chasing him and Chelsea were recently credited with an interest.

The player is at a nice age and would boast the Premier League experience that Forest are perhaps craving at the moment.

Cornet is a versatile performer but he wouldn’t come without concerns too. His best position is out on the flank but under Steve Cooper, Forest tend to play with roaming forwards instead.

Still, Cornet represents good value for money. At £17.5 million, the Reds would be wise to get this one over the line and bring him to the City Ground.
