Stuart Pearce has provided Nottingham Forest fans with an insight as to what they can expect from Jesse Lingard.
The former Manchester United man is close to signing for the Reds, according to various reports this morning.
Lingard is a free agent after leaving the Red Devils in the summer and naturally, it’s a bit of a coup for Forest.
West Ham are also keen to sign Lingard, although it’s anticipated that he could be about to sign for Forest.
Pearce is a hero on Trentside. He’s one of the best players to ever grace the City Ground and supporters absolutely love him.
He coached Lingard during his time at West Ham and he’s suggested he’d be useful for Forest; whilst also expressing his disappointment that he might not be returning to West Ham.
Pearce told TalkSPORT: “Speaking from experience of working with Jesse (Lingard), he’s a fantastic kid to work with. Physically he’s very good.
“He hadn’t played much football when he came to West Ham and he was one of the fittest in the group.
“He’s a great kid and he was wonderful for West Ham and I’m just a little bit disappointed that he didn’t say to himself, ‘I need to get myself back to West Ham’, because he loved it there.”
Pearce provides insight on Lingard
Lingard could be an astonishing signing if Forest can get this one over the line.
The Reds are in need of some Premier League experience and Lingard would come with plenty.
He’s made 232 appearances for Manchester United and has also spent time playing for West Ham.
His spell at the Hammers was superb, scoring nine goals in 16 appearances and also claiming five assists.
As with any deal, there will be cons to Forest signing Lingard. The fact he barely played last season is definitely one of them.
He has made 32 caps for England, however, and with the World Cup on the horizon, he would have a point to prove.
Pearce has a decent reputation when it comes to knowing players inside and out. As a result, Forest fans will hope if Lingard signs he can prove a useful addition.
