Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian has claimed that the expectation right now is that Jesse Lingard signs for Nottingham Forest
The Reds have been in competition with West Ham for his signature and now they look set to pull off an astonishing coup.
It’s claimed that the Reds have offered more money than West Ham, although the deal isn’t completed yet though.
Lingard ended a 20-year association with Manchester United in the summer; departing after 232 appearances for the Red Devils.

He’s been on the radar of several clubs in recent times. Newcastle, Tottenham and Wayne Rooney’s DC United have all been linked in the past couple of weeks.
Yesterday, TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Nottingham Forest have offered Jesse Lingard £30,000-a-week more than West Ham.
It’s not clear at this stage what the offer from West Ham was but it appears that Forest have decided to blow them out of the water.
It’s a big season for Lingard. He needs to start playing regularly once again and if he does that he might force his way back into the England reckoning.
The 29-year-old spent six months on loan at West Ham during the 2020/21 campaign, scoring nine goals and claiming five assists from 16 appearances.
Forest have been on the lookout for attacking talent in recent weeks and Lingard will naturally bolster the squad.
Expectation that Forest sign Lingard and fans will be buzzing
This is remarkable and it’s a deal that is bound to benefit Forest, not least in the way of shirt sales.
How the Reds have managed to pull this one off remains to be seen and the hope will be that he can do the business on the pitch.
It sounds like there is still a bit of work to do. Given the reports, however, it seems pretty clear that Forest are leading the chase.

Lingard recently said that he wanted his next move to be sorted by Friday and that deadline is now fast approaching.
Forest have recruited pretty well so far this summer but Lingard would be the icing on the cake.
Watch this space, but Forest look to be closing in on a remarkable signing.
