The player has been in talks with the Reds over the past few days and has now put pen to paper.
Lingard has penned a one-year deal, according to The Athletic and he becomes the club’s eleventh new signing.
The 29-year-old is an astonishing coup for the newly promoted Premier League outfit.
Lingard has been available as a free agent after leaving Manchester United earlier this summer.
He made over 200 appearances for the Red Devils, having spent over 20 years as a United player.
Lingard spent six months on loan at West Ham during the 2020/21 campaign and they had been in the mix to sign him again.
During his six-month stint at the London Stadium, he scored nine times and claimed five assists from 19 appearances.
As a result, it’s perhaps surprising that he’s rejected their advances to sign for Forest.
Lingard will link up with Dean Henderson once again. The goalkeeper signed for the Reds earlier this summer on a season-long loan.
Forest have opted to give the versatile forward a one-year deal but if he does well there will surely be scope for an extension.
Lingard will now head to Germany with his new teammates, with Forest due to play Union Berlin on Saturday.
Lingard is officially a Forest player
This is a truly remarkable night for Forest supporters.
Nothing against the club’s signings so far this summer but Lingard is a different level of player.
Last season wasn’t a great one for the player but he will be desperate to prove a point to United.
Lingard also knows there is a World Cup on the horizon. He will be desperate to play well and impress Gareth Southgate.
With the official signing from the club not yet forthcoming, Lingard took to Instagram to announce his own signing.
In a short video on Instagram where he is wearing a Forest scarf, he utters the words: “Done deal, baby. Let’s go!”
Lingard is renowned not only for being a good player but also for his imaginative goal celebrations.
After this deal was announced, supporters might just be dancing on the banks of the River Trent.
