A report by The Times has claimed that Nottingham Forest will pay Jesse Lingard a deal worth slightly less than £200,000-a-week.

It’s believed that the former Manchester United man has agreed to join Forest after rejecting an offer from West Ham.

Forest are pulling off a remarkable coup and landing themselves a player with a point to prove and bags of experience.

Lingard has the World Cup later this year in his sights. As a result, he will want to play plenty of games and do the business during 2022/23.

The former United player left Old Trafford earlier this summer; ending a 20-year association with the Red Devils.

He made over 200 appearances for United but recently he enjoyed a really eye-catching spell with West Ham.

During the second half of the 2020/21 campaign, he scored nine goals and claimed five assists from 16 appearances for the Hammers.

Lingard has 32 caps for England to his name. He will want to add to those by making sure he’s on the plane for the winter World Cup in Qatar.

Forest are desperate to bolster their attacking ranks and Lingard would be deemed a marquee addition by Evangelos Marinakis.

There would of course be some reservations; especially considering this report that claims his wage packet would be substantial.

Forest securing Lingard deal could be massive

This looks like a truly astonishing deal and getting beyond the wages, the Reds could be about to hit the jackpot.

It is a lot of money and naturally, that will make some people very sceptical of Forest completing such a massive deal.

Signing Lingard makes a lot of sense though. Merchandise sales should go through the roof and he still possesses a decent amount of quality.

The 29-year-old brings a great deal of leadership to the table and his presence should help a relatively young dressing room.

The World Cup dangles Lingard a sizeable carrot. He will be his last chance to play at the tournament and he will be desperate to do well.

Forest would be sending out a statement of intent by landing Lingard and this deal looks to be nearing completion.
