Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Jesse Lingard but are yet to confirm his squad number.

Lingard is Forest’s eleventh new signing of the summer and joins 24 hours after Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo joined from Huddersfield.

The new Forest man could make his debut on Saturday as the Reds take on Union Berlin in Germany.

With a move for the versatile forward player now completed, we’ve taken a look at a few squad numbers that Lingard could claim.

Potential squad number for Jesse Lingard

Forest have a number of available squad numbers which Lingard could feasibly take for the season ahead…

3– The number vacated by Tobias Figueiredo and the number underneath the word ‘Hope’ on Lingard’s post on Instagram announcing himself as a Forest player. Seems very unlikely.

7 – Now vacated by Lewis Grabban. The shirt has been worn by Liam Bridcutt, Matty Fryatt and Adlene Guedioura in recent times. Lingard isn’t a winger per se but he is a versatile forward.

10 – Forest haven’t had a 10 since Joao Carvalho who departed last summer, joining Olympiacos. Lingard will perhaps be deployed as 10 at Forest and he could emulate former Manchester United man Teddy Sheringham.

11 – The shirt he has worn for England previously and is now vacated by Philip Zinckernagel. Also the number he wore at West Ham.

14 – His trusty faithful number during his long spell at Old Trafford. The number is currently occupied by Richie Laryea but he could leave on loan.

19 – 9+1 = 10 and that could lead Lingard towards grabbing the shirt that will be vacated by Xande Silva when he departs.

35 – Lingard had 35 when he first came into the United team, changing for number 14 in 2016. This number hasn’t been used on Trentside since Jamie Ward departed in 2019.

Lingard only ever wore numbers 14 and 35 during his long association with United. He has worn several different numbers for England.

As mentioned 14 is currently taken but with Laryea set to leave, that could soon become available.

Nobody wears the number 35 and that would certainly be an easy one for him to grab.

Lingard is a stellar signing though and surely 7 or 10 are the frontrunners when it comes to his Forest squad number.

Whatever he chooses, you can bet that supporters will soon be walking around Nottingham with his name on their back.
