Nottingham Forest are set to sign Stuttgart midfielder Orel Mangala, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The maestro is close to being confirmed as a Forest player, with a fee of £12.75 million now agreed.

Mangala will become signing number 12 of a busy summer and he strengthens a midfield department that has looked short.

The talented youngster has bags of experience in the Bundesliga and joins Lewis O’Brien as a midfield signing this summer.

Mangala will be the third player to check in from the German top flight. Taiwo Awoniyi has signed from Union Berlin and Moussa Niakhate from Mainz.

This signing looks like a very useful one, with the 24-year-old viewed as someone who has a very high ceiling when it comes to his potential.

That was evident earlier this summer. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was believed to have been interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.

Mangala has been with Stuttgart for three years. He joined from Hamburg and was also part of the youth academy ranks at Borussia Dortmund and Anderlecht.

During his time with Stuttgart, he made 109 appearances, scoring three goals and claiming 10 assists. He also collected his first Belgium cap in March.

It’s claimed in the latest report that negotiations have taken place over the last few days. Forest now look to have landed their man and in the process, bolstered their midfield ranks.

It seems as though this one could now go through quickly. Forest look to have won the race ahead of West Ham and Crystal Palace who had both been interested this summer.

Forest needed another midfielder. O’Brien partnered Jack Colback on Saturday, with Ryan Yates looking likely to miss another week or two with a knee injury sustained in training.

Mangala will add some much-needed depth to the squad. He is also signed with one eye on the future and Forest will hope to agree on a contract that sees him tied down for his best years.

The Reds have made some exciting business so far this summer. Mangala is another eye-catching capture and hopefully, this one can be sealed quickly.
