Sporting Lisbon are willing to loan Ruben Vinagre to Nottingham Forest for the 2022/23 campaign, according to O Jogo. The Reds are on the lookout for another left-back after Omar Richards suffered a cruel injury blow.

Vinagre has experience of playing Premier League football having spent some time at Wolves. He is down the pecking order at Sporting Lisbon and they could be ready to offload him.

The left-sided wing-back has made his loan move permanent with the Portuguese outfit. He might not get the chance to make an appearance for them during 2022/23, however, with Forest eyeing a move.

Vinagre, who also lists Olympiacos as a former club, made 70 appearances for Wolves, scoring three goals and registering a couple of assists.

Fulham were interested in adding Vinagre to their ranks. Now, however, they’re no long keen to sign the left-back ahead of the Premier League campaign.

Sporting are only considering letting Vinagre leave on loan. They’ve just paid £8 million to sign him on a permanent basis and perhaps see him as an investment for the future.

Nuno Espirito Santo was often complimentary about Vinagre. He previouslly called him ‘special’ and ‘versatile’ following a solid performance for Wolves.

This looks like an ideal signing for Forest to complete. Richards has left a void and competition is definitely required for new arrival Harry Toffolo.

The Reds will want two players for each position ideally and with a hairline fracture of the leg, Richards won’t be back anytime soon.

Vinagre has made 35 apperances in the Premier League. Bruno Lage didn’t feel the need to keep him though and now he could be on the move again.

Forest would welcome some more Premier League experience into their squad. Vinagre would provide that and he could prove a very useful short-term measure.

Adding him on loan would make the signing relatively low risk. A permanent deal at the end of it would seem unlikely but isn’t completely out of the question.

Forest have added 11 new players to their squad this summer and perhaps Vinagre is soon to become number 12.
