Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall has backed Jesse Lingard to thrive at the City Ground. He was interviewed by Sky Sports News ahead of the team’s maiden campaign back in the Premier League.

The Reds stunned the top flight last week when they completed a deal to sign Lingard. It’s claimed that the 29-year-old rejected a contract offer from West Ham to join the Reds.

Forest have been busy this summer. Midfield maestro Orel Mangala will make it a dozen of signings when he checks in from Stuttgart in the next couple of days.

Steve Cooper clearly needed to strengthen his squad. Forest had five loan players to replace from last season, whilst Brice Samba and Lewis Grabban have also departed.

Worrall has admitted he’s not really surprised that Forest have signed Lingard. He believes that it represents the sort of quality that the club should constantly be pursuing.

The captain told Sky Sports News: “Jesse’s got quality. First of all, he’s a really nice guy, he’s fit in like he’s been here years, he oozes quality, an England international and he’s somebody who has played in the Premier League.

“Somebody of his calibre should thrive at Forest. To have someone of his calibre should be the norm for a club like Nottingham Forest.”

Lingard backed by Worrall and he should thrive

The former Manchester United man can be Forest’s main man next season. He is a tremendous addition by Cooper and ultimately he’s a massive coup for the football club.

Lingard didn’t enjoy the best of seasons during 2021/22. His nine goals in 16 appearances during the second half of 2020/21 does offer optimism, however.

The Reds needed some quality in their final third. Philip Zinckernagel has departed, whilst Joe Lolley has been deemed surplus to requirements ahead of the new campaign.

Lingard is a player who excites. He has a point to prove and with the World Cup on the horizon this winter, he will definitely want to win a place back in the squad.

Worrall is clearly ecstatic with the addition. Once the season gets underway, Lingard should have the Forest faithful out of their seats at the City Ground.
