Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has named his squad that will take part in tonight’s friendly against Notts County.

The Reds make the short journey to Meadow Lane with some local bragging rights on the line.

Forest play the National League outfit in their penultimate friendly tonight before finishing off pre-season with a game against Valencia on Saturday.

BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher sparked debate last night. He claimed that it would be a young side to make the short trip across Trent Bridge.

Now, Cooper has named his squad for tonight’s game and the following players will take part:

Zack Abbott
Giulian Biancone
Cafu
Dale Taylor
Aaron Donnelly
Billy Fewster
Oli Hammond
Justin Hanks
Nicky Hogarth
Ateef Konate
Lyle Taylor
Julian Larsson
Richie Laryea
Loic Mbe Soh
Alex Mighten
Braian Ojeda
Geroge Shelvey
Jordan Smith
Sam Surridge
Ryan Yates

Every new signing has been given the night off with the exception of Frenchman Biancone.

That perhaps offers an indication that he won’t be the first choice this season and has been signed as a backup.

Several players who have an outside chance of impressing Cooper ahead of the big kick-off will take part.

Alex Mighten is one of those and so far he’s been pretty useful during the pre-season campaign.

The two biggest inclusions are Ryan Yates and Sam Surridge.

Both players have been out injured recently. Yates picked his injury up during pre-season, whilst Surridge had an operation just after the Wembley win.

It will be an interesting night for the travelling supporters who might have hoped to see the senior squad.

Still, they will get a host of fringe players with a point to prove, one new recruit and a string of burgeoning talents.

Friendly results count for very little. With the season around the corner, perhaps Cooper has made the right decision here.
