Nottingham Forest are launching an audacious swoop on Real Betis to try and sign William Carvalho. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have made the midfielder their number one priority before the window slams shut.

The 30-year-old player is now in the final year of his contract. As a result, that could tempt his current club into a sale if the price is right during the summer transfer window.

Carvalho came through the ranks at Sporting Lisbon. He spent time on loan with Cercle Brugge in 2013 but made 191 appearances for the Portuguese giants.

The tough-tackling midfielder moved to La Liga in 2018. He’s now been with the club for four seasons and has played 135 times for the reigning Copa del Rey holders.

Carvalho was part of the Portugal squad that claimed success at Euro 2016. He’s also lifted the Nations League title with his country and claimed 73 caps in total on the international stage.

The latest reports claim that Forest are now going full speed ahead for Carvalho. Steve Cooper still wants another midfielder, despite Orel Mangala nearing a move to Trentside too.

Talks have started between Forest and Betis for Carvalho. The Spanish outfit do have a decision to make especially with his contract due to expire this time next year.

The Reds have been active in strengthening their midfield this summer. Lewis O’Brien has arrived, with Mangala set to arrive soon and Ryan Yates also back from injury now.

Forest to try and sign Carvalho and this could be game-changing

In 2017, Arsenal were desperately keen to sign Carvalho. Ultimately, the deal never came to fruition and he ended up signing for Real Betis in Spain instead as his next move.

The combative midfielder would be a dream signing for Forest. Although he’s 30 now, he’s showing no signs of his career slowing down and he’s still a superb defence-minded midfielder.

It seems as though talks have now been started by the powers that be. If a deal can be struck this would be another eye-catching signing and one that might send out a statement of intent.

Rumour rating: 10/10 – It’s rare we go all in with full marks but there is an awful lot to like about this potential deal from a Forest perspective.

The £82,000-a-week Carvalho has the top-level experience that the Reds are craving. He’s played with some class players and the Premier League shouldn’t faze him at all.

Here at Nottingham Forest News, we desperately hope the Reds can get this deal over the line before the season gets underway.
