Nottingham Forest are in the race to sign Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, according to 90Min. Other clubs are interested and Arsenal pushed to sign him in 2021.
The Reds are still on the lookout for one more midfield player. Orel Mangala checked in on Trentside on Saturday but another defence-minded player is on the radar.
Rangers kicked off 2022/23 with a 2-1 win over Livingston at the weekend. Kamara started the game and it would appear that he’s part of Giovani van Bronckhorst’s plans this season.
However, the Old Firm will always be at the mercy of richer English clubs. Forest have a bounty of cash to spend having already plunged £85 million into the playing squad this summer.
The Reds aren’t alone in the race to sign Kamara. Bournemouth and Brighton provide Premier League interest, whilst RB Leipzig, Marseille and Galatasaray are all keen.
The player has conceded in the past that he’d like a move to England. He told Finnish TV channel YLE: “I would never say that I wouldn’t go and play elsewhere in Europe. I’d like to play in the Premier League but if there was somewhere else that would be good for me.”
Forest in race to sign Kamara and he could be ideal
The Reds would be completing a decent deal if they can land Kamara this summer. He’s a vastly experienced international player that loves to get stuck into tackles.
Kamara has made 159 appearances for the Gers since checking in from Dundee. The 26-year-old has also made 46 appearances for Finland, scoring a solitary goal.
Forest aren’t blessed with lots of options in midfield. Mangala and Lewis O’Brien have been added, with Jack Colback and Ryan Yates also still at the club from last season.
Kamara could be a savvy signing. He wouldn’t cost a fortune and his experience could be telling in a relatively young Reds squad.
Steven Gerrard is a big fan of the player. During his time as Rangers boss he called the midfielder ‘fantastic‘ for some blistering form.
Rumour rating: 7/10 – There is plenty to appreciate about Forest going after Kamara. He’s well versed in the defensive side of the game and would provide some steel to the flair of Mangala.
Forest do need one more midfield really. The likes of Cafu and Braian Ojeda are unlikely to be called upon much and more competition for places is required.
Kamara would prove a very decent signing and at 26, he’s approaching his prime as a central midfielder.
