Nottingham Forest want Remo Freuler and a move to the City Ground is now thought to be just around the corner for the Atalanta midfielder.
Forest have been retooling their midfield this summer with loan star James Garner now back with parent club Manchester United.
Lewis O’Brien has come in from Huddersfield Town whilst Stuttgart have been raided for Belgian international Orel Mangala.
Jack Colback may play more of a midfield role this season having played as a left wing back last term, but Forest could still add another midfielder.
Nottingham Forest want Remo Freuler
Reports from Italy in recent days have heavily linked Atalanta star Freuler with a move to the City Ground.
There is now an update with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that Freuler is now one step away from joining Forest.
It’s stated that Forest have increased their offer for Freuler to around €10million (£8.5million), meeting Atalanta’s asking price.
The report claims that a deal is now ‘around the corner’ for Freuler, with Forest ready and waiting for the Swiss ace to arrive.
Freuler, 30, emerged with Winterthur in his native Switzerland and returned there when a move to Grasshoppers didn’t really work out.
Luzern was Freuler’s next destination in 2014, and Atalanta swooped in 2016 for a deal that didn’t exactly turn heads.
Fast forward six years and Freuler has racked up 260 appearances for the Serie A club, bagging 21 goals along the way.
Add in 46 caps for Switzerland Freuler has gone from unknown midfielder to absolutely vital for both club and country.
Freuler has racked up more than 40 appearances in each of the last five seasons, making himself a reliable part of Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.
Swiss national team commentator David Lemos had previously told BBC Sport that Freuler is ‘tireless’ and ‘incredibly reliable’.
This could be a real coup for Forest and some more experience in the engine room alongside the likes of O’Brien, Mangala and Ryan Yates.
