Nottingham Forest have submitted an offer to sign PSV wonderkid Cody Gakpo, according to Foot Mercato. The Reds are in the mix with Arsenal, Manchester United and Leeds to sign the talented performer.

Forest went down 2-0 to Newcastle United on Saturday. It was a tough test for the Reds in the curtain-raiser and it served to intensify the need for some more players.

Gakpo has seemingly been watched by every team in the Premier League. His potential is so high that the player has been compared to both Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie.

The 23-year-old typically operates on the flanks and he could actually stay at PSV. His current club are trying to win a place in the Champions League group stages and that could twist his arm.

Still, the Eredivisie side know that they’re typically at the mercy of English clubs. With that in mind, PSV could be tempted to sell him if the price is right

Gakpo got his season off to a flying start yesterday. He scored twice as PSV thrashed FC Emmen 4-1 and he’s also scored in the Johan Cruyff Sheild which PSV won against Ajax.

Offer submitted by Forest for Gakpo but it feels ambitious

This doesn’t feel like a deal that is overly possible. The player would welcome the chance to move to the Premier League but he may hold out for a bigger club.

He would be ideal for Forest. In 145 appearances for PSV, he’s scored 35 goals, with 21 of those strikes coming during the 2021/22 campaign where he played 46 times.

Furthermore, Gakpo provided 15 assists to his team. He usually plays out on the left flank and he’d clearly represent a brilliant signing for Forest if they can pull it off.

Rumour rating: 10/10 – It’s hard not to give this anything other than full marks, even if we do think Forest’s chances are perhaps slim.

The Reds would dearly love to sign him but so would a lot of the Premier League. Gakpo is a wanted man and it’s good to see Forest linked with such a talented player.

Whether or not the club can pull it off, however, remains to be seen.
