Houssem Aouar has failed to reach an agreement on personal terms with Real Betis amid interest from Nottingham Forest. The Reds have made an offer to the player’s representatives and journalist Matteo Moretto claims Forest have offered a lot of money.

Aouar would be a remarkable signing. Even being linked to him seems unthinkable; with Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester all linked with a move in recent times.

The £62,000-a-week star has spent his whole career at Lyon. He has risen through the ranks with the Ligue 1 outfit and is now one of Europe’s most exciting central midfield players.

During 2021/22 he made 44 appearances for Lyon. He scored eight goals and managed four assists. He played in a number of positions and even captained the team on several occasions.

In total, Aouar has made 215 appearances for Lyon. During that time, he’s scored 45 goals and claimed 35 assists, collecting one cap for the France national team in that time.

Now, he could be on the move. It seems unlikely now that Real Betis will be snapping him up and that could open the door for Forest or Leicester to win the race for his signature.

Aouar played 21 times in the number 10 last season. As a result, the Reds may target the Frenchman as they look at potential alternatives to Morgan Gibbs-White.

This would be a serious statement of intent if Forest could sign Aouar. The Reds are desperate for another attacking player or two and they could do with one stellar signing.

Forest have already made an offer to the youngster. If he’s willing to come to the Reds it would be quite an alternative to Gibbs-White who Forest have been chasing all summer.

It won’t be easy to sign him though. He’s likely to want a substantial wage and it’s whether or not what Forest have offered is high enough to tempt him.

Interestingly, Aouar is represented by ICM Stellar Sports. They also have Dean Henderson, Moussa Niakhate and Omar Richards on their books and that could help swing it in Forest’s favour.
