Newcastle are set to stun Nottingham Forest and make a huge offer for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos. According to journalist Pedro Sepulveda, the player is valued in excess of £28 million and the Portuguese giants will hold out for a big offer.

The Magpies beat Forest on Saturday. Now, they hope to defeat Forest once more in the race to sign one of Europe’s most burgeoning talents.

Ramos has been in fine form since being handed a first-team shot last season. He scored eight times in the second half of 2021/22 and even found the net against Liverpool in the Champions League.

The youngster has made a blistering start to 2022/23, firing a hat-trick against Midtjylland in the qualifying stages of the Champions League.

Ramos has a release clause of around £120 million. That is merely to help preserve his valuation, however, and bids of around £34 million will likely be accepted.

Forest and Newcastle aren’t the only teams vying for his signature. Wolves are keen and they have a record of signing Portuguese talent.

Ramos is 21-years-old and can play as a striker or through the middle as a number 10; with Forest trying to sign players for both positions this month.

Newcastle to make huge Ramos bid

Newcastle were much better than Forest on Saturday. It was a real baptism of fire for the Reds and now they could lose out to the Magpies again.

Eddie Howe’s team will likely be in the mix to qualify for Europe this season. As a result, it seems likely that any player with the choice right now would choose Newcastle.

Forest do need some attackers. In the coming weeks, they have to make sure they finalise their transfer business properly and sign the required players.

Ramos might be proving one race that the Reds won’t be able to win this month.
