Nottingham Forest have cooled their interest in Southampton forward Che Adams, according to The Athletic. Everton are now the frontrunners for his signature and want to strike a loan-to-buy deal.

The Reds has been thought to be keen to sign the Saints star. There are contrasting reports over whether or not the Premier League club will actually be willing to let him leave.

It’s thought that Southampton are focused on strengthening their own squad. Ralph Hasenhuttl is relaxed about keeping his forward and doesn’t particularly want to let him leave.

Forest are busy trying to strengthen their attacking ranks. The Reds lost 2-0 at Newcastle on Saturday and they failed to have a shot on target during the 90 minutes.

Adams has been at Southampton since 2019. He cost the club £15 million from Birmingham and he’s become a steady Premier League player during his time at St Mary’s.

The 26-year-old has made 110 appearances for the club, scoring 21 goals and laying on a further 12 in the way of assists.

Adams can play as a centre-forward. He’s also showcased the versatility to play on the flanks or through the middle as a number 10.

The versatile performer earns £52,000-a-week and he perhaps wouldn’t come cheap to any club that wishes to sign him.

Interest cooled by Forest in Adams

If the Reds are cooling their interest in Adams it suggests they have other irons in the fire. It’s already disappointing that the Reds have not further strengthened their attacking ranks and signings are required.

Adams would definitely be a useful addition. Despite that, perhaps they don’t feel there is value for money with his arrival and are now willing to look elsewhere.

Whatever Forest’s tact is in this instance, they need to get moving. There are only a few weeks left of the transfer window and Steve Cooper will be desperate to get a few signings over the line.
