Nottingham Forest were thought to be in talks with Chelsea over the signing of Tiemoue Bakayoko. According to Sempre Milan, the Reds were willing to cut short the player’s loan at AC Milan.

Now, it’s not likely that a deal will come to fruition, with one journalist ruling out Forest from chasing the tough-tackling midfielder.

The 27-year-old signed a two-year loan deal at the San Siro last summer. His 2021/22 campaign wasn’t overly successful, with the player making just 18 appearances.

As a result, the player will be itching to play regular football. His career has stagnated somewhat and perhaps he’d have been willing to move to the Premier League with Forest.

Talks were thought to be ongoing regarding the player’s wage demands. Right now, those could prove a stumbling block with the midfielder earning £93,000-a-week.

Now, it seems as though Forest won’t be signing the player. Will Unwin from The Guardian has advised the Reds fan base to calm down and suggested he’s not on the shortlist.

The Frenchman has played once for the national team but it’s fair to say he’s never really got going during his time at Stamford Bridge.

He signed for the club from Monaco but has made just 43 appearances for the Blues, scoring three goals and laying on three assists.

Forest have been busy strengthening their squad this summer. The Reds have added Lewis O’Brien, Orel Mangala and Remo Freuler to their ranks already.

Forest were in talks with Bakayoko but deal it’s mere speculation

This one doesn’t seem to make a great deal of sense. Although he’s experienced, it seems unthinkable that he’d be willing to swap AC Milan for the City Ground.

Nothing against Forest but Milan will be in Europe again this season. For the Reds, their remit is to simply maintain their status as a Premier League club.

Bakayoko may have bigger fish to fry and Forest might also view their midfield ranks as strong enough to be competitive now.

The Reds have a healthy quota of players to choose from and Steve Cooper is likely to be done in that area of the pitch now.

Rumour rating: 4/10 – Nothing against Bakayoko, we just didn’t believe this was a legitimate link. Thankfully, it’s one that’s now been dismissed.

The Reds will probably want a couple more players but it’s no surprise that Bakayoko isn’t on the radar.
