Moussa Niakhate has compared Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien to a former Arsenal star. The new signing from Huddersfield starred as the Reds defeated West Ham 1-0 at the City Ground.

The 23-year-old was energetic throughout the game. He left everything out on the pitch and was awarded the Man of the Match accolade by the sponsors in the stadium.

Forest bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Newcastle. That handed the Reds a firm reality check but the West Ham win will do wonders for the team’s confidence.

Steve Cooper was beaming at the end of the win yesterday. He clearly spent a lot of time with his players on the training ground this week and he’ll be delighted to claim a vital three points.

Niakhate was in fine form at the heart of Cooper’s defensive unit. After the game, he took to Instagram to praise O’Brien and compared him to former Arsenal and Hammers star Jack Wilshere.

O’Brien was called ‘outstanding’ live on air by Andy Hinchcliffe who was on co-commentary for Sky Sports. He was awarded the Man of the Match by Sky and in the stadium.

Niakhate wrote on O’Brien’s Instagram post: “My Jack Wilshere!”

The Reds look to have made a very useful signing indeed by landing O’Brien. He was a standout performer for Huddersfield last season and Forest were quick to take him.

O’Brien is vastly experienced despite his tender years. As a result, he should be capable of making the step up to the Premier League and kick on once more this season.

The midfielder was brilliant yesterday. What made his performance more impressive was that he came up against a future England captain in Declan Rice and still didn’t look fazed.

Forest will want even more from O’Brien this season. The energetic ball-carrying midfielder was brilliant against West Ham and supporters will be delighted to have him on board.
