Manchester United are willing to sell James Garner before the transfer window slams shut. The Athletic claims that Nottingham Forest were interested, whilst Everton, Southampton and Tottenham are in the mix too.

Erik ten Hag has included Garner in his matchday squads for games against Brighton and Brentford. Despite the Red Devils losing both games, the 21-year-old hasn’t got on the pitch in either of the games.

After spending 18 months playing every game for the Reds, Garner will want to be playing regular football. He will have aspirations of playing in the top-flight and now United are willing to let him leave.

Interestingly, he won’t cost a fortune either. The Old Trafford giants will accept around £14 million for Garner and there could be a ferocious chase to sign him.

The midfielder was outstanding as Forest claimed promotion to the top-flight last season. He registered 10 assists for the Reds and also helped himself to four goals of his own.

Forest have recruited heavily this summer. As a result, the report does claim that it’s unclear whether or not the Reds will still try and sign the England under-21 international this month.

Steve Cooper is a huge fan of Garner. He has strengthened his midfield ranks with the signings of Lewis O’Brien, Orel Mangala, Remo Freuler and Cheikhou Kouyate.

The Red Devils are making a mistake here. They were absolutely thrashed at Brentford on Saturday and it’s baffling that he can’t even get a brief run-out for United.

Garner is worshipped by Forest fans. The club’s fan base will always be thankful for his efforts last season; particularly in the play-off final when he set up the winning goal.

There are plenty of options in midfield though. As well as the aforementioned options, Forest still have Jack Colback, Ryan Yates and Cafu at the club.

Garner showcased some versatility last season. He was called upon to play in the number 10 on some occasions and perhaps Cooper could sign him to compliment his current crop of attackers.

It doesn’t look like Garner will be short of options. This looks set to spark intriguing speculation and it will be interesting to see whether or not the Reds will return to sign the youngster for a third time.
