Nottingham Forest are edging closer to the signing of Houssem Aouar, according to reputable journalist Rudy Galetti. The Reds have been desperate to add another number 10 to their squad and could be about to get their man.
The Lyon man has needed some convincing to join Forest. He had been pushing for a move to Real Betis during the transfer window, but the Frenchman was unable to agree on personal terms with the Spanish outfit.
Now, Forest are ahead in the race. The Reds have reached an agreement with Lyon and final details are now being discussed with the player and his representatives.
A development is expected very soon. If a deal can be closed it would see Aouar become the 16th player to sign terms at the City Ground in a jam-packed summer of transfer activity.
Forest got their Premier League campaign kick-started on Sunday. Steve Cooper’s men defeated West Ham 1-0 at the City Ground as they bounced back from an opening day defeat.
Aouar is a product of the youth academy at Lyon. Over the last few years, he’s become a first-team regular, scoring 40 goals and laying on 35 assists in 215 appearances.
The player is now ready for a top European league. Back in 2018, Pep Guardiola confirmed as much when he called Aouar ‘incredible’ after Lyon claimed a draw against Manchester City in the Champions League.
Forest edging closer to Aouar and he’d be a coup
Forest’s transfer business has already been good this summer. This signing, however, would certainly take things to the next level.
Nothing against the players that have been signed so far but with lots of them, one eye has been placed on the future.
Aouar is genuinely world-class and in recent years, he’s had big clubs try and get him. Most recently, Mikel Arteta has fancied taking him to Arsenal.
The player is unlikely to cost the earth either. Although he earns £62,000-a-week, he’s out of contract next summer and will likely be considerably cheaper than Morgan Gibbs-White; who the Reds have also looked at.
This would be an amazing signing for the Reds. As a result, fans will hope a deal can be done sooner rather than later.
