Nottingham Forest have sent a bid to Zamalek to try and complete the signing of Ahmed El-Sayed Zizou, according to reports in Egypt. The Reds are looking to finalise their squad but they may have to bid a bit more for the Egyptian star.
Forest have offered £7 million at the moment. His current top-flight club are holding out for £10 million, however, and the Reds must decide whether or not they will return with an improved offer for the attacker.
Affectionately known as Zizo, the player has been with Zamalek for three years. Prior to signing for the club, he had experience playing in Europe with Moreirense and Nacional in Portugal and Lierse SK in Belgium.
At Zamalek, he’s often been considered a right-winger. He has made 141 appearances for the reputable club, scoring 41 goals and claiming 31 assists during his three-year association.
Now, they could consider selling him. He will be out of contract in two years and it seems likely that Zizou will be sold if Zamalek’s valuation is met this summer.
Zizou has 23 caps for Egypt and has been a teammate of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah on the international stage.
Forest are still hoping for a few more players after a pretty hectic summer. The Reds have added 16 new players during the close season and their spree isn’t finished yet.
Zizou enjoyed an outstanding 2021/22 campaign. He bagged 21 goals and claimed 14 assists as Zamalek enjoyed a stunning campaign.
Forest bid for Zizou but a deal looks unlikely
This link doesn’t make a deal of sense. Once the window closes it will be hoped that Forest will have Brennan Johnson back playing his roaming role out on the right.
As a result, splashing £10 million on a player who has never played in England doesn’t seem very logical at all.
Zizou is probably a decent player. Indeed, in Egypt, his numbers are pretty impressive but this is the Premier League we’re talking about now.
This could be an idle link where the player is keen to leave his current club and wants a story to be put out there suggesting that a bid has been made.
Rumour rating: 3/10 – Nothing against Zizou but we just can’t see this happening.
This kind of link is one that was rife when the former hierarchy were in charge and Forest look to be shopping in better markets these days.
If the Reds were still in the Championship, this might make some sense. Ultimately, the club has bigger fish to fry these days and we don’t think this one comes to anything.
