Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumare, according to Foot Mercato.

The Reds have been namechecked in the report which links the player with Crystal Palace too.

Soumare hasn’t really taken well to life playing in the Premier League and the Foxes are hoping to cash in on the player.

The 23-year-old only signed for Leicester from Lille in 2021 but managed just 12 starts in the Premier League under Brendan Rodgers.

Soumare is fancied by Patrick Vieira. As a result, it would seem as though the Eagles are holding the aces with this deal.

It would seem as though Forest are casting a watchful eye on the situation as they look to finalise their summer recruitment.

The Reds have been active this summer, with 16 new players being welcomed to the City Ground.

Adding to that, four of the new recruits have been central midfielders and it’s perhaps not an area where Forest need any more bodies.

Soumare has bags of potential but he’s played his best football in Ligue 1.

He cost Leicester £17 million and perhaps the Foxes will be hoping to recoup what they paid for the midfielder just a year ago.

Lewis O’Brien, Orel Mangala, Remo Freuler and Cheikhou Kouyate have all been added to the ranks this summer.

Furthermore, Forest have Ryan Yates, Cafu and Jack Colback already at the club vying for places in the midfield engine room.

Soumare signing for the Reds perhaps doesn’t make much sense and maybe Selhurst Park is a more realistic destination for him.

The youngster has been called ‘powerful’ by Lille’s CEO Marc Ingla and his defensive qualities do catch the eye.

Rumour rating: 5/10 – Nothing against Soumare, we just don’t think this is one for Forest.

He doesn’t really bring anything to the ranks that Steve Cooper doesn’t have in his squad already.

Soumare earns £83,000-a-week at Leicester. As a result, it’s unlikely that Forest will be parting with that salary for another central midfielder.
