Nottingham Forest are in advanced negotiations to complete the signing of free agent Djibril Sidibe, according to Foot Mercato.

The Reds have been scouting the market for another right-sided wing-back options this summer.

So far, they’ve added Neco Williams to their ranks but haven’t managed to sign anyone to compete for his place.

Now, it would appear that a move for Sidibe is some way down the line with Forest keen to finalise their squad.

It’s claimed that the former Everton player has reached an agreement on personal terms with Forest.

A one-year deal has been offered to the player but there are still some finer details to iron out.

Furthermore, Forest are looking at other options, including Serge Aurier who is namechecked as one option in the article.

Sidibe signed for Monaco from Lille in 2016. He spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Goodison Park, making 28 appearances and claiming five assists.

Last season he tried to re-establish himself at Monaco and made 28 appearances, including three in the Europa League.

Sidibe was hailed by Duncan Ferguson during his time at Everton. He called him ‘unbelievable’ in 2020 and he did a decent job with the Toffees.

The right-sided wing-back is a World Cup winner. He was part of the France squad in 2018 but made just one appearance at the tournament.

Still, on a free transfer, this looks like it could be a useful signing for the Reds to make.

It seems pretty clear that Williams will remain as the primary choice under Steve Cooper but options wouldn’t go amiss.

Sidibe seems to fancy a move to Trentside and perhaps this is a deal that Forest should look to complete.

Rumour rating: 8/10 – There is a lot to like about this deal, even if it will be as a backup option.

Sidibe knows the division and he will be desperate for another crack at the top flight.

Landing a World Cup winner on a free transfer isn’t to be sniffed at and this could be a decent signing for the Reds.
