Remo Freuler has told Watson why he chose to leave Atalanta and sign for Nottingham Forest.

The Reds midfield made a £7.5 million move from Italy and made his debut against Grimsby on Tuesday.

Forest have landed the 46-time Switzerland star and he could have a big part to play this season.

Freuler played over 200 times for Atalanta and captained the team in the Champions League against Manchester United last season.

He wasn’t denied a move by Gian Piero Gasperini with the 30-year-old having just a year to run on his contract.

Now, with the player settling at the City Ground, the midfielder has been quizzed on why he chose to sign for the club.

He told Watson: “The club worked hard for me and was able to present me with a project that is exciting and ambitious.

“I thought about this change carefully, it wasn’t a gut decision within 24 hours.

“I’m convinced of what Nottingham is up to. Those responsible have put together a team that can survive in the first difficult year after promotion.”

Freuler will hope to make his Premier League debut this weekend when Forest face Tottenham at the City Ground.

Fans will find this interview very interesting and it seems he thought long and hard about signing for Forest.

Freuler was always going to find it a hard decision having been at Atalanta for six years.

Now, the player is set for a different challenge over the next 12 months as Forest try and survive in the Premier League.

The experienced midfielder could be a massive player for the Reds during the next few months.

First, he will need to get himself into the team and if he does, it looks unlikely he will relinquish his place easily.

Freuler has top-flight experience and he will be desperate for a Premier League chance at the City Ground.
