Wolves are set to sign £20m-rated defender Victor Nelsson from Galatasaray and it could help Nottingham Forest.
The Reds are keen to sign Willy Boly from the Molineux-based outfit but they wanted a replacement first.
Nelsson looks like being their man and it could now open the door for Forest to swoop for another Wolves player.
Steve Cooper has already signed Morgan Gibbs-White from the club this summer and more players will follow.
It’s been an active summer for the Reds and it had looked as though they might be finished when it came to defensive recruits.
Injury to Moussa Niakhate has seen Forest change tact, however, with Boly now on the radar.
The 31-year-old has been with Wolves since 2017 and has helped the club establish themselves as a Premier League club.
It’s been a frustrating few years for the centre-back. Last year, Bruno Lage preferred other options and Boly played just 11 times.
In fairness, the Portuguese player is likely to provide backup, with Steve Cook, Scott McKenna and Joe Worrall the current first-choice options.
Boly is comfortable playing as part of a two or a three at centre-back and he will at least provide some cover.

The Reds are still in the market for a couple of new players as Cooper looks to finalise his transfer plans.
Boly is a vastly experienced player and he’s made 13 appearances for the Ivory Coast on the international stage.
The player has made 147 appearances for Wolves, featuring in the Premier League and Championship for the club.
Perhaps Boly is only a short-term fix at centre-back and with Niakhate probably on the mend, he will provide backup.
The Reds have had to wait patiently to get this one over the line but Wolves landing Nelsson could accelerate things.
