Sheffield Wednesday have emerged as candidates to take Nottingham Forest youngster Alex Mighten on loan, according to The Star.

Forest are looking for a club willing to take the young Reds winger for the 2022/23 campaign.

Mighten has been in all three matchday squads since Forest returned to the Premier League and started the Carabao Cup match at Grimsby on Tuesday.

It’s fair to say a loan is required though. He’s failed to hold down a regular place in the team at Forest and needs regular action.

Mighten would be willing to head out on loan. The challenge for Forest is to find a club that would suit his development.

Wednesday seems like the ideal place to send him, with boss Darren Moore boasting a proud record when it comes to nurturing young talent.

Furthermore, the Owls will play on the front foot in the majority of the games they play this season.

The Yorkshiremen will hope to return to the Championship this season after failing in the play-offs last time out.

Forest have other priorities, with Premier League survival firmly in their sights for this season.

As a result, regular game time won’t be forthcoming too often for Mighten and a loan move looks perfect.

The 20-year-old has made 66 appearances for the Reds but with a lot of them from the bench, he’s scored just four goals.

There are some resemblance between Mighten and Brennan Johnson when the 21-year-old first came into the team.

He went off to Lincoln and performed exceptionally well, kick-starting his career and setting him on the road to becoming a Forest star.

Mighten will look at his teammate as someone he can emulate. The future looks bright for the Forest man and a stint at Wednesday could be just the tonic.
