Nottingham Forest have been handed a major boost in the quest to sign Atletico Madrid star Renan Lodi. The player is the subject of loan interest from the Reds and a deal could now be in the offing, Fabrizio Romano claims.

Steve Cooper is edging closer to finalising his squad. Another left-back is required, with summer signing Omar Richards fracturing his shin shortly after arriving on Trentside.

Harry Toffolo has played at left wing-back during the first three games of the 2022/23 campaign. He hasn’t disappointed when he’s been called upon and the shirt will probably be his to lose.

Lodi is a different quality of player though. The 24-year-old has won a La Liga title with Atletico Madrid and has also been capped 15 times by the Brazil national team.

The player is now available for a loan move. Los Rojiblancos boss Diego Simeone had initially said that he wanted to keep the player at Wanda Metropolitano for the current campaign.

Now, it would appear he’s changed his stance; largely due to the fact that he’s set to beat Forest to one of their transfer targets in Tottenham ace Sergio Reguilon.

If the Spain international heads back to Madrid, Lodi will be down the pecking order. The player is keen to play football ahead of the World Cup which takes place in Qatar in the winter.

This would be quite the signing. Lodi is a world-class player and Atletico stopped the player from joining Manchester City earlier during the current transfer window.

Simeone had been keen to keep him around. One big issue for Forest could be that other clubs are likely to remain keen on a player with such a renowned reputation for being quality.

Lodi has been with Atletico since July 2019 when he checked in from Brazilian outfit Athletico Paranaense where he has come through the youth ranks in his homeland.

He’s been integral during his time in the Spanish capital. He’s played 118 times for the club, scoring six goals and claiming 11 assists and typically operating in his natural position.

Forest are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to ensure they’re successful this season. The Reds have added several players already this summer but the £64,000-a-week star Lodi might just be the most exciting of the lot.
