Nottingham Forest are close to completing the signing of Rennes defender Loic Bade, according to Foot Mercato. The Reds faced last-minute competition from Aston Villa but Steve Cooper looks to have got his man.

Bade is a 22-year-old with bags of potential. He transferred from Lens to Rennes just last summer and could now be on the move once again with the clock ticking on transfer deadline day.

The former France under-21 international will have a desire to win a call-up for the senior France ranks but to do that he will need to be playing regular football.

Bade has featured just once for Rennes during the current campaign. As a result, they’re willing to let him leave and seek first-team football away from France.

It looks as though Forest will be signing the youngster on loan. Furthermore, the club will hold an option to buy the defender at the end of the temporary stint.

Villa are yet to win a game during the current campaign. Steven Gerrard’s men face a frantic finish in the transfer market as they bid to finalise their squad.

They look to have lost out on Bade though; with Forest now set to complete a deal to add the highly-rated central defender.

Earlier during the transfer window, Southampton and Leicester had taken a look at the possibility of signing Bade this summer.

Both clubs failed to follow up on their tentative interest though and Bade now looks set to be unveiled as a Forest player.

The Reds are in need of some pace at centre-back and Bade could be the player to provide just that.

He’s a highly-rated member of the Rennes team and perhaps Forest could do a lot worse than recruiting the talented player.

Forest have not only beaten off Aston Villa to Bade’s services but Bundesliga outfit Augsburg were also in the market to sign him.

Bade might not be the only signing to arrive at Forest on deadline day and it remains to be seen how many other players will be added prior to the deadline.
