Various reports have suggested that Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper is on the shortlist of Brighton as they draw up potential candidates to replace Graham Potter.

The Seagulls boss joined Chelsea last week as the successor to Thomas Tuchel. He has taken his entire backroom team with him and Brighton will want to move quickly.

Cooper isn’t the only name on the radar. According to reports from The Sun and 90 Min, the Forest man is among a four-man shortlist that also includes Kjetil Knutsen.

A Championship duo has also emerged as possible replacements for Potter. Luton boss Nathan Jones and Swansea incumbent Russell Martin are also in the mix.

Forest fans perhaps shouldn’t be too concerned just yet. The Athletic claims that getting Cooper out of his City Ground deal would be expensive and the Reds are expected to stand firm.

The Reds will be desperate to see Cooper remain on Trentside. The head coach has been a revelation since checking in at Forest and led the team to promotion last season.

One slight issue is that Cooper will be out of contract in the summer of 2023. It has been claimed earlier this summer that a new deal had been offered, but so far there has been no announcement.

In a conflicting report, it’s claimed that Cooper could be a step too far for Brighton. He would be expensive and the Seagulls doubt whether the boss would want the move.

Cooper on the shortlist to replace Potter

The Forest incumbent does look like the natural fit to replace the new Chelsea boss. He plays a similar style of football and like Potter is an up-and-coming manager.

Cooper leaving Forest would be hugely detrimental. The Reds supporters worship the ground he works on and they want their boss to commit his future to the club.

Brighton would be a step up for Cooper, however. The Seagulls are an established Premier League club and they’ve made a blistering start to the campaign.

The fact other managers are in the mix will delight the Reds fan base. They will hope that a new deal can be ironed out and Cooper ignores any advances from
