Alex Moreno has claimed that moving to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest would have been an interesting move for him.
The left-sided player was the subject of an accepted bid by the Reds as they aimed to tighten up that area of the pitch.
Forest had agreed on a £9 million deal and the 29-year-old was due in Nottingham for a medical ahead of a move to the Premier League.
Moreno has been at Real Betis since 2019 when he signed from Rayo Vallecano and he’s become a firm fan favourite.
Last season, he helped the club finish fifth in La Liga and was also part of Manuel Pellegrini’s team that won the Copa del Rey.
Clearly, he fancies the project in Seville and he’s settled with his current club, despite the summer interest from Forest.
He told Radio Marca: “I decided to stay for the project. Nottingham would have been interesting as a step in my career, but here I have the affection of the fans, something special is being created and I have an important role in the team.
“I feel very comfortable here, very much, I want to continue growing in Betis, after having already spent four years here.”
Moreno says Forest would have been interesting move
The 29-year-old would have been an ideal signing; although it’s fair to say they’ve landed lucky with the signing of Renan Lodi.
Still, Moreno was excellent last year and helped Betis enjoy a season to remember.
It’s quite admirable that he chose to stay at Betis and perhaps in the end all parties got what they wanted.
Moreno seems like a decent character but his signing may have come with a couple of risks.
The player has spent his entire career playing in Spain and there is no saying he would have adapted to the Premier League.
