Brian Laws praised Morgan Gibbs-White for a moment of brilliance as Nottingham Forest lost 3-2 to Fulham on Friday.

The club’s record signing was handed another chance to start and it was his brilliance that saw Forest open the scoring.

Gibbs-White took an out-swinging corner, with Ryan Yates flicking on and Taiwo Awoniyi powering home his second goal for the club.

That was about as good as it got for the Reds. Three goals in four second-half minutes ended any hope Forest had of claiming a win.

Lewis O’Brien did complete a decent cameo by scoring with 14 minutes remaining but the Reds couldn’t find an equaliser.

Gibbs-White has looked pretty steady since checking in. He’s got one assist to his name and he will hope to kick on.

Here he got a pre-assist if you like and Laws lauded the 22-year-old for his moment of brilliance.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham: “It’s a quality delivery from Gibbs-White. Yates nods it on and Awoniyi just meets it with his head.”

The Forest man was signed last month and he spent the summer as the subject of a transfer saga.

Everton and Crystal Palace were also keen, although he held a desire to come to Forest and work with Steve Cooper once again.

Now, it’s up to the player to prove that he can justify such a price tag. Forest paid an initial £25 million for him but the fee could rise to £42.5 million in the future.

That represents a real statement of intent from Forest. Evangelos Marinakis chose to spend the cash, with Cooper identifying him as a number one target.

Gibbs-White looks like being a big player for the future. He will only get better the more he plays and Forest look to have a useful player on their hands.
