Nottingham Forest were beaten 3-2 by Fulham at the City Ground on Friday and now the future of Steve Cooper looks perilous.
According to The Sun, the Reds head coach is on the shortlist at Brighton and the compensation package wouldn’t be substantial.
The Reds incumbent will be out of contract during the summer of 2023 and Cooper is now a wanted man.
Other names are on the list at Brighton but Cooper is firmly on their radar and his contract situation makes things interesting.
Forest fans won’t welcome this news that Cooper’s compensation package is so tiny.
However, it will be refreshing to hear that Evangelos Marinakis wants to tie him down to a new deal.
Cooper is coming up to his one-year anniversary at the City Ground. He has overseen promotion to the Premier League in a short time, and fans are grateful.
The Reds haven’t taken to the top-flight particularly well. Forest have currently lost four on the spin and are facing relegation.
Cooper, however, has captured the hearts of the fan base and naturally his stock couldn’t be higher.
Brighton are on the lookout for a new manager. Graham Potter joined Chelsea recently and that has shell-shocked the club.
Cooper looks like the natural fit for the role with the Seagulls but it’s not clear-cut that they will move for him.
Steve Cooper future looks perilous
Forest’s form has to change. If it doesn’t, then Marinakis might decide that something else has to give.
The Reds owner has shown ambition in the transfer market and he’s likely to do the same on the manager front.
Forest do want Cooper to sign a new contract but that is likely to be in order to preserve the manager’s compensation package.
The Reds are unlikely to lose the manager to Brighton but Forest do want to keep their manager.
It looks set to be an interesting couple of weeks and Reds supporters will hope to see their gaffer remain in place when they head to Leicester after international break.
