Nottingham Forest are set to open talks with Pep Segura over becoming the club’s new Sporting Director, reports in Greece have suggested.

The Reds have been keen to strengthen off the field and Segura is in Athens for talks with Evangelos Marinakis.

Segura would certainly be an intriguing appointment. The 61-year-old previously worked for Liverpool and was thought to be Steve Cooper’s mentor.

A lot has happened since the pair last worked alongside each other. Cooper has led Forest to the Premier League, whilst he’s also led an England side to World Cup glory.

Segura has quite a CV to boast about. He’s worked at Barcelona in a number or roles and was in place at the Nou Camp as recently as 2020.

He’s also worked for Liverpool and Olympiacos and was also part of the football staff at AEK Athens where he was the assistant manager during 2006/07.

Segura is now due to hold talks in Athens. Some have claimed that it could be for him to work with Olympiacos; although it’s believed that the intention is for him to head to Nottingham.

Forest have done brilliantly off the field in recent years. Dane Murphy has been a stroke of genius, whilst George Syrianos has done great things on the recruitment side of things.

Segura would further enhance the staff at the club and Forest will hope to pull off this deal quickly.

Forest in talks with Segura and message is crystal clear

Football is a fickle mistress. Various journalists and random hearsay has suggested that Forest might be looking to move Cooper on.

This report goes a long way to suggest that the real situation is quite contrary to any claims of such substance.

Forest wouldn’t be looking to appoint a Sporting Director that knows Cooper well if he was about to be sacked, would they?

Everyone associated with the Reds needs to be singing from the same hymn sheet and it’s clear that Segura and Cooper do that.

This could prove an exciting off-field decision. Forest will now hope he can aid the club in reviving their fortunes on the pitch.
