Darren Bent has suggested that Steve Cooper could be under pressure at Nottingham Forest but believes he should be handed a new deal.

The Reds are enduring a tough baptism of fire during their maiden campaign back in the Premier League.

Forest have won just one of their seven games back in the top flight and that came in the second week of the season.

Recently, they’ve lost home games against Bournemouth and Fulham, much to the dismay of supporters.

Bent thinks his fantastic record in the Championship could still leave him perilous if the poor form continues.

The former Premier League striker said on TalkSPORT: “He’s done a fantastic job; they believe in him and he’s done a phenomenal job.

“The owners will only care what he’s doing right now though and he’s got a big job around his hands.

“We’ve seen managers who have won more get sacked at this stage, look at Tuchel at Chelsea.

“Personally, I think it would be madness though to get rid of him. It would be bonkers but sometimes these owners can be quick.”

Cooper under pressure but he should thrive on it

You have to feel some sympathy for the Forest incumbent. He’s been handed a colossal bounty and after signing 22 new players there will be a settling-in period.

That means that he needs time. The club’s hierarchy will be well aware of that and naturally, they will give him every chance to succeed.

This is a results-based business though and performances of the nature of those against fellow newly-promoted outfits won’t go down well.

Cooper has some credit in the bank though and Bent does make some very valid points after Cooper and his situation.

The Reds face Leicester, Aston Villa and Wolves next, with nine huge points on the line.

Forest’s landscape could look a lot clearer in a few weeks and it would be nice to see Cooper fist-pumping his way out of this tricky period with a win or two.
