Nottingham Forest under-21s were beaten 1-0 by Palermo on Friday and ex-midfielder John Bostock was a surprise name on the Reds’ team sheet.

The young outfit headed to Manchester City’s training ground to take on the Serie B team in a friendly clash.

It was an exceptionally young side that headed north and they held their own against a strong Palermo side.

A few household names from the under-21s were given run-outs, with the rest of the team made up of first-year scholars.

Billy Fewster wore the captain’s armband, whilst new signing Adnan Kanuric started between the posts for the Reds.

In attack, Ateef Konate and Julian Larsson both started the game, with 16-year-old Jimmy Sinclair playing in midfield.

The game’s only goal came in the 79th minute. Former Roma striker Soleri Edoardo was on hand to score from close range.

It was the inclusion of Bostock that caused the most intrigue; with the player currently a free agent after leaving Doncaster Rovers.

The former Reds performer is training with the Reds to keep his fitness levels up ahead of his next move.

Bostock spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at the City Ground, with many supporters believing him to be vastly underused.

He made just nine appearances under the management of Sabri Lamouchi after signing on loan from Toulouse.

During his time in South Yorkshire with Doncaster, he made 43 appearances and it was perhaps surprising that he didn’t get kept on.

Bostock surprise name on Forest team-sheet

Officially, the 30-year-old was named as a trialist on the team sheet but his Instagram showcased that it was Bostock who played.

He snapped a photo of the yellow and blue Forest away kit, alongside his shin pads and boots in the dressing room afterwards.

For fans wondering if Bostock might be getting signed up, that simply won’t be the case.

The player is merely training with the under-21s to stay fit and will hope to get hooked up with another club.

At 30 the player will be desperate to play and the hope will be he can find a new employer very soon.
