Moussa Niakhate has left the Senegal camp to continue his recovery with Nottingham Forest, according to Senegalese news outlet Taggat.

The Reds defender was a surprise inclusion in the squad for games against Bolivia and England’s World Cup opponents Iran.

Niakhate has never been called up by Senegal before and his first meeting with his new teammates came as he was nursing an injury.

The 26-year-old was on the bench as they defeated Bolivia 2-0 yesterday but didn’t get on the field.

Now, he won’t be called upon against Iran either, with the player making his way back to Nottingham.

Forest would dearly love Niakhate back for their East Midlands derby-day clash with Leicester.

The Reds face the Foxes with both teams in desperate need of three points to pull clear of the bottom three.

Niakhate hasn’t played since limping out of action against West Ham during Forest’s first home fixture of the campaign.

The Reds have felt his absence, with his pace, in particular, proving to be a seriously big loss to the team.

Niakhate arrived from Mainz in the summer for a fee of around £13 million and he looks like a very shrewd addition.

Niakhate has left Senegal camp and now Forest will hope he can return

The Reds are desperate to see the Senegal international back in their team for the clash against Leicester.

Forest have lost four matches on the spin and they can ill afford for their current run of form to continue.

Having Niakhate back would be a massive boost and Forest would certainly welcome all the help they could get right now.

Some Reds defenders have struggled to make the step up to Premier League football.

Niakhate looked good in the two games he played and having played at the top level before he should thrive.

The defender will be a welcome boost to Steve Cooper’s team when Forest face Leicester and the Reds fan base now face an anxious wait.
