Nottingham Forest midfielder Remo Freuler scored for Switzerland last night and now Steve Cooper has a headache ahead of the trip to Leicester.
The Reds head coach will have watched with intrigue as Freuler stole the show for Switzerland as they beat the Czech Republic 2-1.
Over the weekend he helped his country stun Spain with another fine performance and now the head coach has a big call to make.
Forest can’t afford to keep losing in the Premier League. They’ve slipped to 19th place and don’t want to slip to the bottom with defeat to Leicester.
Freuler was largely disappointing when handed a start against Fulham but the 30-year-old hasn’t just become a bad player.
Some fans have already washed their hands of him. Fans should be used as a loose term for people like that, with Freuler still adapting to the Premier League.
The former Atalanta star swapped Serie A for England during the summer. Forest parted with around £7.5 million for his services during a hectic transfer window.
Any talk of Freuler not being good enough after two performances – one of which came against Manchester City – is absolute nonsense.
Cooper must now shuffle his pack again but does he stick with Freuler for the visit of Leicester?
Freuler scored for Switzerland and Cooper has a decision to make
Maybe the current problem isn’t Freuler. Likewise, maybe it’s not any of the personnel that keep being chosen by Forest.
It could be that by only operating with two midfielders, the Reds are being left badly exposed and perhaps an extra man is needed.
Freuler won’t have won Cooper over with his showing against Fulham. He might have caught the eye of Cooper on international duty though.
Forest won’t be washing their hands of Freuler just yet and in the short-term Cooper has to decide whether to stick or twist with the Switzerland star.
