Nottingham Forest lost 4-0 to Leicester last night and Steve Cooper did something at the end that will leave supporters heartbroken.

Cooper cut a dejected figure as the Reds succumbed to a James Maddison masterclass which saw them 3-0 down at half-time.

Forest were struggling near the bottom of the Championship when he came to the club. He quickly got the team firing and led them to promotion via the play-offs.

Now, the Reds are on a run of five straight defeats and following last night’s defeat, they are rooted to the bottom of the league.

Two goals from Maddison and strikes from Harvey Barnes and Patson Daka ensured a miserable evening for the Reds.

Cooper now looks to be teetering close to the bring at the City Ground and perhaps his actions last night were that of a beaten man.

There were no familiar fist-pumps. Cooper lingered in front of the Forest fans for what seemed like longer than usual.

Was this the sign of a manager knowing that he’s set for the chop and wanted to soak in the adulation from fans who worship him for one last time?

Nobody will truly know that. However, Forest fans do perhaps face an anxious few days as the Reds have to wait another six days to return to action.

Nobody will seriously want Cooper to depart. Ultimately though, results and perhaps more crucially, performances simply haven’t been good enough.

Wolves are thought to be monitoring the situation very closely as they line up a new head coach at Molineux.

The fact he spent a little longer over with the Forest supporters last night perhaps suggests he knows what’s coming.

Marinakis isn’t a man to offer patience if things aren’t going right. For context, he’s already chopped two managers at Olympiacos this season.

Cooper should be afforded time. This is football, however, and with Forest boasting an ambitious chairman, the Welshman could be about to feel the owner’s wrath.
